Fast Edge-Orientation Heuristics for Job-Shop Scheduling Problems with Applications to Train Scheduling

چکیده
A train scheduling problem in a single-track railway can be modeled as a job-shop scheduling problem. We use a mixed graph model for such a job-shop problem with appropriate criteria. There are several performance evaluations for a train schedule. Optimizing a train schedule subtends minimizing total tardiness of the trains, minimizing the sum of train transit times, minimizing the makespan for a train schedule, etc. Since the corresponding job-shop problems with the above three criteria are NP-hard, several constructive heuristics have been developed using different priorities based on the release times of the jobs, the job due-dates and the job completion times. Experiments on a computer were used for evaluating the quality and efficiency of the heuristic algorithms developed for appropriate job-shop problems. The release times, due-dates and completion times of the jobs have been used as input parameters (priorities) to see the effect of them on the quality of the schedules with different objective functions. The efficiency of the developed heuristics was tested on a set of 118 randomly generated instances of small and large sizes with up to 2000 operations.

Train Scheduling Problem with Consideration of Praying Constraint as an Application of Job Shop Scheduling Problem
The present paper extends the idea of job shop scheduling problem with resting constraints to the train scheduling problem with the Muslim praying considerations. For this purpose, after proposing the new mathematical model, a heuristic algorithm based on the Electromagnetism-Like algorithm (EM) which is well adjusted to scheduling problems is employed to solve the large-size practical cases. متن کاملAn integrated approach for scheduling flexible job-shop using teaching–learning-based optimization method
In this paper, teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO) is proposed to solve flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP) based on the integrated approach with an objective to minimize makespan. An FJSP is an extension of basic job-shop scheduling problem. There are two sub problems in FJSP. They are routing problem and sequencing problem. If both the sub problems are solved simultaneously, t...
متن کاملImproved teaching–learning-based and JAYA optimization algorithms for solving flexible flow shop scheduling problems
Flexible flow shop (or a hybrid flow shop) scheduling problem is an extension of classical flow shop scheduling problem. In a simple flow shop configuration, a job having ‘g’ operations is performed on ‘g’ operation centres (stages) with each stage having only one machine. If any stage contains more than one machine for providing alternate processing facility, then the problem...
متن کاملAn Improved Tabu Search Algorithm for Job Shop Scheduling Problem Trough Hybrid Solution Representations
Job shop scheduling problem (JSP) is an attractive field for researchers and production managers since it is a famous problem in many industries and a complex problem for researchers. Due to NP-hardness property of this problem, many meta-heuristics are developed to solve it. Solution representation (solution seed) is an important element for any meta-heuristic algorithm. Therefore, many resear...
متن کاملA New Approach in Job Shop Scheduling: Overlapping Operation
In this paper, a new approach to overlapping operations in job shop scheduling is presented. In many job shops, a customer demand can be met in more than one way for each job, where demand determines the quantity of each finished job ordered by a customer. In each job, embedded operations can be performed due to overlapping considerations in which each operation may be overlapped with the other...
